 | | | | This section is provided to explain a few simple rules we have regarding servers on our list.
Server Naming- When naming a server on the list please use common sense, the server name should reflect your own server. Obscene and/or racist server names will not be allowed and will be removed along with your entry from the list.
- The shards banner is also used as a link to the shards own website, web linking your shard banner to any site other than your own UO Shard's site is not allowed, if website links point to the wrong place your shard will be removed at the discression of the ListUO's admin.
- If you don't have a banner just leave the banner URL field blank when entering your details, we will place our sites banner in it's place, your website link will continue to work from this.
Server Description- Describe your shard here with a simple but informative description, things like 'It's a Shard' are not much use to new players. Remember some information is better than none at all.
- Again, common sense with your descriptions should keep your server in the list.
Players Online- The players online figure on the list comes from the part of the application which checks each server, it detects the number of connected clients to your server and displays it.
- Player numbers are not altered in our list in anyway other than what information your server sends back.
Server IP & Port Information- In order for players to connect to your shard you must provide a server IP or address & port number, without it your server will not be checked.
- Server information is used by the list update application in order to check your servers online/offline status as well as player numbers. The IP & Port details will be displayed on our list to allow potential new players to connect to your shard, as a shard owner yourself you'll be aware that this is the only way people can connect to your server in the first place so you the server owner should already be aware of any risks involved.
- ListUO does not use this information you provide in any other way than to ping your server at regular intervals and update it's list.
How Does It Work- The shard list is updated at 30 minute intervals by a small application, the application uses the information you give when you add a new shard to the list. It connects to your server, sends a small amount of information and reads what your server sends back, from there it updates the list every 30 minutes which anyone with just a web browser can view.
- It works in much the same way applications for checking UO free servers have done in the past, UOGateway did this but is no longer with us, ConnectUO does the same but also starts the game client too. Razor requires users to enter a server address and a port number.
- ConnectUO and Razor are now the accepted front runners in the UO free shard community for client launching.
